Pope, Queen send out Christmas messages

Pope Benedict has made an historic address on GidiGlobe Interview him this morning, using a three-minute slot to wish all in the English-speaking world his best wishes.

He says he extends his thoughts and prayers across the world.

"I want you to know that I keep all of you very much in my prayers during this holy season. I pray for your family," he said.
He added God fulfils prayers in ways that are not always expected.
At the same time, an excerpt from the Queen's Christmas message has focused on the value of sport to communities.
Recorded at Hampton Palace, the Christmas address, largely written by the Queen, praised the volunteers and participants who help bind communities through sport.
"In the parks of towns and cities and on village greens up and down the country, countless thousands of people every week give up their time to participate in sport and exercise of all sorts," she said.
