Extension won’t affect corps members – Tsiga

Brigadier General Maharazu Ismaila Tsiga

The Director General of National Youths Service Corps, Brigadier General Maharazu Ismaila Tsiga, has assured the 2010 batch ‘A’ corps members that the extension of the on-going voter registration will not affect their February 10 passing out ceremony.

Tsiga who stated this in Akure, the Ondo State capital, while monitoring the registration exercise on Saturday, said every arrangement had been completed for the ceremony.

He said he was going round the 36 states of the federation to assess the security and welfare of the corps members participating in the voter registration and to encourage them to be hardworking.

The NYSC boss commended the corps members and said that he was impressed by their attitude towards the success of the forthcoming elections in the country.

He said, “Athough the corps members were given just three days training instead of three months but they have been able to handle the equipment perfectly.

“I really commend their efforts. They have shown to the whole world that they are in support of credible elections.”

Tsiga promised the corps members maximum security during the ongoing voter registration and during the elections.

He said, “My first assignment is on how to ensure proper security for the corps members during the elections. They are serving their fatherland but they should not be exposed to violence that can cost them their lives.

“The Independent National Electoral Commission is only making use of few members of the NYSC for this programme, but it will be using all the corps members for the elections and adequate security must be provided for them,” he added.

On non-payment of the corps members’ allowances, Tsiga urged the corps members to show understanding with INEC, saying the electoral body was making all efforts to pay their allowances.
