West Brom travel to Craven Cottage today to take on Fulham in a dicey Premier League clash and all eyes will be on their Nigerian striker, Peter Osaze Odemwinge to do the damage after a horrible penalty miss against leaders, Manchester United on New Year Day.
Coach of West Brom, Roberto Di Matteo has restated his confidence in the ability of Nigerian striker to shake off the disappointment of that miss on Saturday and go ahead to re-establish himself as the team’s leading scorer.
Many have described the penalty as one of the worst ever in the Premier League’s history as the Super Eagles marksman connected with the ball with his heel.West Brom eventually lost the game 2-1 to United and Di Matteo say Osaze is still very gloomy over the Saturday’s events.
“Obviously he is still depressed but we have to get on with it, get ourselves prepared for the next game which we will try to win,” the Italian said post match.
“I feel frustrated because we played very well and did not deserve to lose. Some of the refereeing did not favour us and Gary Neville ought to have been shown the red card in the first half,’ he said.
West Brom, 14th on the table with 22 points next travel to Craven Cottage to face resurgent Fulham on January 4.
Di Matteo has said the loss could not be attributed to Osaze’s penalty miss alone but a collective responsibility which they must get over with and forge ahead.
The match today presents a perfect ground for the club which just returned to the Premier League to express themselves.
“Osaze and his mates have everything to play for. We must put all that behind us and rediscover the good run we started when the season began,” Di Matteo stressed.
Osaze himself has pledged to do everything possible to ensure he begins scoring again. “I will score against Fulham and compensate the club and our teeming fans for the pains we have caused them in recent weeks,” Osaze said.
