The bandits were said to have comfortably alighted from their vehicles, collected the fallen soldiers’ rifles and ammunition and shot their way to escape.
The new Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel Jinadu could not be reached, but a source close to his office which confirmed the attack said the armed robbers laid ambush against the soldiers. “From what I was told, the soldiers attached to OPs MESA were responding to a distress somewhere at Afro-Media when they ran into an ambush by the hoodlums. They opened sporadic fire on the patrol van killing four of them on the spot. They collected their arms and ammunition.”
It was also not possible to ascertain whether any of occupant of the patrol van survived the attacked but sources said the remains of the killed soldiers have been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
