SNITCHING: Kidnapper Reports His Gang To The Police

Men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), in Nnewi, yesterday, stormed a kidnappers’ den and nabbed three suspects who allegedly abducted Mrs Edekobi, a 70-year-old woman at Mbosi, in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The Police who acted on a tip off from a supposedly innocent and patriotic Nigerian, was to discover later that the informant was a member of the robbery gang. The informant, simply known as Chikwado, allegedly reported to the SARS office in Nnewi that he was attacked on his way to the church. He claimed that having escaped, he had come to alert the police about the incident.

Daily Sun gathered that when Chikwado escorted the team led by SARS Co-ordinate in Nnewi, Mr. James Nwafor, to the kidnappers hideout, he was identified as a member of the gang.

On sighting the operatives, the kidnappers opened fire killing one of the kidnappers and inflicting injuries on others
Nemesis however, caught up with the criminal, when Okwudili, an injured member of the gang, revealed that he was a member of the gang..Mrs. Edekobi, who was rescued unarmed, could not identify Chikwado, because of a drug allegedly administered on her.

Chikwado, a carpenter, later confessed he had to blow the whistle on his colleagues because he had pity for the old woman, and more so that the N20 million ransom, was not forthcoming.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emeka Chukwuemeka, confirmed the story, but said further investigations on the whereabouts of the escaped members were under way.
