National Chairman, Action Congress of Nigeria, Chief Bisi Akande, has said the ACN would welcome a former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, back to the party if he makes the move.
Speaking during a news conference to mark his 72nd birthday anniversary, on Sunday, in his Ila-Orangun country home, Akande said, “Atiku is a businessman with a mind in politics but business and politics don’t go hand-in-hand sometimes. If he wants to come back, he is welcome.”
Describing former President Olusegun Obasanjo as a clueless personality, Akande said that there was no way a former Lagos State governor, Bola Tinubu, could be compared with Obasanjo.
He said, “Obasanjo is a clueless confusionist. Tinubu is a focused party manager; he has some people to regard and respect but Obasanjo regards and respects nobody.”
Explaining that Tinubu, as Lagos State governor, was able to survive the rigging machinery set in progress by Obasanjo against Alliance for Democracy governors in 2003, Akande said Tinubu’s political survival in the face of PDP’s machinery was a result of his (Tinubu’s) political sagacity.
He said, “Tinubu was able to make it in 2003 because of his political sagacity and because he was in Lagos State, where the whole world was watching the election.
“It was because Kano and Bauchi were in the eyes of the world that Obasanjo cannot afford to rig in those states too.”
Akande condemned jumbo pay being received by elected politicians and stressed that it was wrong of members of the country’s parliament to determine their salaries and emoluments.
