Immigration arrests 3 foreigners at voter registration centres

The Nigeria Immigration Service, Ondo State command yesterday said three foreigners that registered as voters during the on-going voter registration had been arrested.
Speaking with newsmen, the Comptroller in-charge of the command, Mr. Patrick Sessi, said they were arrested in various locations in the state.
Sessi, however, expressed concern over the attitude of the people of Ile-Oluji who prevented his men from arresting a Ghanaian woman, Rashidat Abass in the council area.
He said when attempt was made to arrest the woman in Ile-Oluji, some people in the community raised alarm and prevented his officers from arresting her
Those arrested according to him included one Ghanaian, one Togolese and one from Republic of Benin who had already registered and allocated voter’s card before they were apprehended by the men of the command.
According to him, those arrested were Ofori Attah, a Ghanaian, John Bob from Togo and Daniel Segun, who hailed from Republic of Benin.

He added that the four people were sighted in Ile-Oluji, Ondo town, Owo and Ese-Akoko.
Sessi explained that his men were able to arrest the people because they were also involved in the registration exercise in the 18 local government areas of the state.
The comptroller stated that the people had registered and had also been issued voters cards in the various registration centres before his men picked them up.
Sessi said the voters’ cards had been confiscated from the people and that they would soon be repatriated to their different countries.
Those arrested according to him claimed that they had been living in Nigeria for between 20 and 30 years and they believed they were qualified to vote.
He pointed out that those arrested admitted that they were illegal immigrants living in the country without necessary papers or resident permits.
