Jonathan tasks NNPC on speedy realisation of AOK refinery in Imo

President Goodluck Jonathan has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, to ensure speedy realisation of AOK refinery in Imo State.
The refinery, which is spear-headed by the state government, is designed to diversify the state’s economy to reduce its over-reliance on federal allocations.
Governor Ikedi Ohakim, who disclosed this in Owerri while swearing in a commissioner and special adviser, also said the state government had concluded plans to build an ultra-modern electronics market in the state to cater for the needs of the citizenry.
“This project, when completed and fully operational, will ultimately guarantee employment to the teeming unemployed youths in the state,” Ohakim said of the refinery.
On the electronics market, Ohakim said the decision to establish it and open more business opportunities was to lure people of the South East geo-political zone nearer to their homes to contribute to the development of the area.
He stressed the need to diversify the economy of the state and avoid over reliance on federal allocation in addressing the developmental needs of the people.
The governor also challenged the new appointees to bring their wealth of experience to bear in actualizing the lofty goals of the present administration.
