Boxer Bash Ali and 535 Nigerians on Monday arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja on Monday in the second batch of evacuees from Libya.

This brought the total number of Nigerians so far evacuated from the troubled North African country to 1035.

A statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations, National Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Yushau Shuaib, said the agency’s Director-General, Muhammad Sani-Sidi, stated this in Abuja while receiving the evacuees. The NEMA DG was quoted as saying that a total of 2000 Nigerians were expected to be evacuated from the troubled North African country.
The first batch, comprising women and children, arrived in Abuja on Sunday morning.

He said, “The evacuation exercise being coordinated by NEMA is targeted at evacuating over 2000 stranded Nigerians who are willing to return to Nigeria from the crisis in Libya.

“The exercise embarked upon by the Federal Government to bring back stranded Nigerians in Libya has recorded additional 536 evacuees who were successfully flown to Abuja International Airport on Sunday night from Tripoli International Airport.”

He stressed that NEMA would continue to provide food and medication for the evacuees at the designated special camps along Abuja International Airport Road, adding that transportation arrangements had been provided to take the evacuees to their respective states of origin.
