Leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Henry Okah.

South African police authorities on Wednesday said it had proof that the detained leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, Mr. Henry Okah, was constantly making phone calls from his cell to abuse and threaten President Goodluck Jonathan and other senior officials of government in Nigeria.

The police who raided Okah’s B-Max cell said they caught the detainee with eight phones from which they believed he was calling to verbally abuse and threaten the president with plans to further launch terror attacks in the country.

A map and other documents believed to constitute security threats were also found in Okah’s cell.

“In these phone calls, which we believe he made from the prepaid cell phones we seized, he is alleged to have verbally abused several senior Nigerian government officials, including the president.

“He is also believed to have told the president and his minister about further terror attacks MEND is believed to have been planning on carrying out,” Pretoria News quoted a senior official of the Department of Correctional Services to have said on Thursday.

Geny considering adoption?

A number of Nollywood actors spent the Eid-el- Malud holiday combing less privileged homes to share love and gifts.
One of such actors who not only visited one of such homes but also came home with ‘some thoughts’ is Genevieve.
She tweeted on Tuesday:
“Just leaving Heritage Homes orphanage and I saw the most beautiful baby in the world! Hmm… *seriously having some thoughts*. – Geny, Feb 15
Now what sort of thoughts go through people’s minds when they visit the less privileged?
Especially an orphanage where lots of beautiful yet abandoned babies reside and are being cared for by people who have devoted themselves to nurturing these special ones.
Apart from making frequent visits bearing gifts, wouldn’t a more lasting measure be adoption? Geny, am I pondering what you’re pondering?

Jonathan approves fresh allowance for ex-militants

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved a fresh fund called Re-insertion Safety Allowance for 20,192 ex-Niger Delta militants.

The approval followed a series of agitations by the ex-combatants who had clamoured for some allowances from the government.

The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, issued the information on Thursday during a pre-departure briefing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for 42 ex-militants departing for South Africa on a six-month vocational training.

Kuku, who did not disclose the amount, however, said the President had passed the matter to the National Assembly.

He said, “The President has approved a Re-insertion Safety Allowance for 20,192 ex-militants. This amount is for the first set of 20,192 ex-militants; the second set, consisting of 6,166 ex-militants, will be included in the supplementary budget.

UK court jails Nigerian for £1.3m scam

The Inner London Crown Court has sentenced a Nigerian immigrant, Olaide Taiwo, to eight-and-a-half years imprisonment for stealing the identities of 350 people to claim £1.3m in bogus tax credits.

In what was described as the largest benefit scam of its kind, Taiwo 35 was said to have hijacked the identities while working as a security guard for a number of large national companies, Daily Mail reported on Thursday.

He was then said to have used the names to claim tens of thousands in working tax credits.

The report said the sentence was the highest ever for tax credit fraud. Taiwo is understood to have arrived illegally in Britain in 2003 with his wife.

Although three applications to stay in the United Kingdom failed, in 2005 he was granted discretionary leave to remain.

It was during this period that the scam by the father of two began. He submitted more than 300 fraudulent tax credit claims between June 2004 and July 2008 worth over £1m.

Sanusi rejects IMF’s advice to weaken naira

http://www.punchng.com/images/February/Monday/pix20110221455031.jpg

THE Central Bank of Nigeria, on Monday, disagreed with the International Monetary Fund on the latter’s verdict that the naira was overvalued.

The CBN Governor, Mr. Lamido Sanusi, said that the apex bank would not devalue the naira as recommended by the IMF, noting that the recommendation was “internally inconsistent.”

Sanusi said in an interview with CNBC Africa, published on the CBN website, that the recommendation, if accepted, would trigger higher inflation in the economy.

He said, “I have had this debate with the IMF, the recommendations they made are internally inconsistent. If we devalue the currency or we depreciate the currency, it adds to inflation.

“If we have a volatile exchange rate, it affects inflationary expectations. The question is: can we sustain this rate? And in a time of rising oil prices and stable revenues, we think we can. In fact, the depletion of reserves has ended. We have had gradual accretion in the last three months.”

The IMF had said last week that the naira was overvalued and that more exchange rate flexibility would be needed to prevent the CBN from running down the foreign currency reserves.

ACN VP ticket: How Adeola beat Ebi, Akabueze

THE Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, yesterday, formally submitted Mr. Fola Adeola to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, as the running mate of its presidential candidate, Nuhu Ribadu.
GidiGlobe learnt that Adeola, erstwhile Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, beat former Deputy Governor of the Central  Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Mr Ernest Ebi and Lagos State Commissioner for Budget Mr. Ben Akabueze to the position of Vice-Presidential Candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria for the spot.
ACN determination
Adeola it was learnt, was chosen on the basis of the determination of the ACN Presidential Candidate, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu to have an economic guru as his running mate.
A top party source told GidiGlobe: “Ribadu had said that his vice-president must be an economic expert and that is why you see that with the exception of Ngige all other considerations were on economic experts.”
However, the choice of another Muslim to be running mate for Mallam Ribadu was raising apprehension among party insiders despite the enthusiasm of some that the pair of Ribadu and Adeola would rekindle the victory achieved by the Muslim-Muslim ticket of Moshood Abiola and Babagana Kingibe in the June 12, 1993 presidential election.

PRESIDENCY: Ciroma, NPLF grumble over delay in agreement

THE Mallam Adamu Ciroma-led Northern Political Leaders Forum, NPLF, was, yesterday, holding back from a formal endorsement of President Goodluck Jonathan on account of last minute delay in the submission of the report of a joint committee bridging differences between both parties.
http://www.vanguardngr.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Malam-Adamu-Ciroma4.jpg

Vanguard gathered that the report is expected to clearly bind President Jonathan to a single presidential tenure. The report is equally expected to redefine the present zoning arrangement in the country.
NPLF members, it was learnt, were miffed that the report of the joint committee was yet to be submitted at press time, almost twenty four hours after the Sunday night deadline agreed between President Jonathan and the NPLF during their breakthrough meeting, weekend.

April polls: Igbo threaten PDP, Jonathan

Ahead of the April general elections, Igbo leaders have warned  that it is dangerous for the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its presidential candidate, President Goodluck Jonathan, to go into the polls without returning the position of the party’s national chairman to the South East geo-political zone.

R-L: Prof Soludo, Sen Ken Nnamani, Chief Simeon Okeke, Dr. Alex Ekwueme, Chief Achike Udenwa, Dr Sam Egwu, Mrs. Chinwe Obaji, and Senator Ben Obi outside the Hotel Concorde, Owerri venue of the Igbo Summit

The Igbo leaders said yesterday that the president may have it rough in the polls in the South-East if the issue of the PDP substantive national chairman was not immediately resolved in the zone’s favour.
The last holder of the office of the PDP chairman, zoned to the South East under the PDP internal arrangement, Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo, had been forced to resign amid the intrigues that trailed the January presidential primaries of the party, throwing up his deputy, Dr. Haliru Mohammed, in acting national chairman capacity.

There have been insinuations of a scheme by the North to retain Mohammed in office as acting national chairman until after the polls, implying that he may run the remaining tenure of an office earmarked by the PDP for the South East.
Rising from a meeting in Abuja yesterday, a group of eminent South East leaders asked Jonathan, who is the leader of the party, as well as members of the National Executive Committee, NEC, of the party to, as a matter of urgency, look at the issue and find a solution to it, against the backdrop that it becomes more dangerous when taken into cognizance the voting strength of the zone which they put at over 24 million registered voters.

April elections: INEC weighs security concerns over printing of ballot papers

http://www.punchng.com/images/June/Wednesday/pix2010060920304517.jpg
“There are security concerns, our reputation as a Commission and as a people is at stake”
The Independent National Electoral Commission has completed the bidding exercise for the printing of ballot papers for the April elections, GidiGlobe findings on Friday have revealed.
Both local and international firms applied for the job, but the commission has declined to state the identities of the companies involved, and their number.

It was gathered that with the bidding exercise and security screening completed, INEC is inclined towards engaging a major international firm for the ballot paper printing.

A source at the commission explained that though local firms turned in their bids, it doubted their chances of being considered.

Besides, the desperation of politicians to win at all costs and the obvious serious security questions in the country are also being considered by the electoral body.

DAMN!!! Child Trafficking Camp In Lagos Busted By Under-Cover Reporter

Are you looking for babies for outright purchase? Or are you in need of children to serve as maids? You don’t need to search further. In the heart of Lagos, a camp exists, where babies, young girls and boys are figuratively on sale. All you need is to pay and take them away without even signing any document.

Investigation by Saturday Sun undercover reporter revealed that kids are brought from villages, in the South East, with the consent of their parents, who are only interested in money and not the welfare or safety of their wards, and camped in houses in Lagos, from where are be given out to anybody who can afford the fee.

Checks showed that some of the kids, who are serving as maids or hawkers for their “slave owners” do not go home to see their parents. And those who did, after many years, especially young girls, are told by their parents not to bother returning, unless they find husbands.

To unearth this child trafficking cum slavery ring, Saturday Sun reporter, visited the baby shops, with a lady who posed as a prospective “buyer.” The lady negotiated and issued a cheque to “buy” a day-old baby.
The experiences of the victims and the reporter’s task to unravel these racket would simply shock you stiff.

In Oyo, Akala’s war to break jinx rages

Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala of Oyo State, no doubt, has not been finding things easy about his resolve to
govern the Pacesetter State twice, a feat which no other governor in the state has ever recorded.
Since he assumed office, he has had so many battles. But, as he overcomes one, another is already waiting for him.
Some of the former governors in the state performed to the admiration of the people but, a large percentage see it as a taboo to govern the state twice. Today, the indigence's, the state capital, still make reference to the meritorious achievements of the former attorney-general and minister of justice, Chief Bola Ige, but they claim as good as he was, his dream for re-election was truncated.
Alhaji Yekini Adeojo, a serial gubernatorial aspirant,  some time said no matter how crafty, good and popular a governor is, if it remains a little for him to govern Oyo twice, somehow, things would turn against him.

FG cuts NNPC gas budget by N155bn

The Federal Government has slashed the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation’s Gas Joint Venture budget for 2011 by N155bn.

According to the budget presentation of the NNPC to the National Assembly Committees on Gas Resources, the firm made an appropriation request of $10.203bn (about N1.53tn) for its gas projects for 2011, but the Budget Office cut it down to $9.172bn (about N1.37tn).

The breakdown of NNPC’s request showed that the total Federal Government equity is $7.90bn with an alternative funding of $2.30bn.

It also plans to spend $2.24bn on domestic gas production and an additional $1.89bn on gas supply.

Also, $342m was earmarked for the Joint Venture Independent Power Projects, while the total base cash call budget was put at $5.64bn.

The schedule indicated that a total of $1bn had been secured through existing MCA’s, but indicated a funding gap of $1.3bn for 2011.

Reps may withhold approval for 2011 agric budget

There are indications that the House of Representatives may again be heading for a showdown with the presidency as the lower chamber plans to withhold the 2011 budget for agriculture.

THE Chairman House Committee on Agriculture, Hon. Gbenga Makanjuola, who briefed journalists when he visited the wards in his constituency, said the planned action followed the inability of the executive to implement the sector’s budget for last year.

The lawmaker who represents Irepodun/Isin/Omu-aran federal constituency also noted that the Federal Ministry of Agriculture would not get the House approval for any additional funds until an explanation of how the money released to the sector in the last four years was given.

Makanjuola submitted that though successive governments had neglected the sector due to the discovery of oil wealth, the present administration had also compounded the problems in the sector.

Senate rejects N1.2bn budget for upkeep of ex-Heads of State

http://www.punchng.com/images/February/Thursday/pix20110217317031.jpg
Yayale Ahmed, SGF

The Senate Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental-Governmental Affairs on Wednesday rejected the N1.2bn proposal by the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation for the upkeep of former Heads of State and their deputies.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Smart Adeyemi, said his conscience would not permit him to defend it before the Senate Committee on Appropriation to which he directed the SGF.

A Permanent Secretary at the SGF’s office, Mr. Taiye Haruna, who represented the SGF, Yayale Ahmed, told the committee that the N1.2bn was not captured in the 2011 budget proposals, but that it would be presented to the committee later.

He also said that the sum of N2.2 billion was proposed for the upkeep of the former leaders in 2010, but was also dropped when the budget was being computed.

Adeyemi was visibly angry at the proposal.

He told the SGF, “I will not be able to defend this before the appropriation committee. My conscience will not permit me to do that. I think that these retired Heads of State should be able to take care of their needs, but we are still paying so much in the face of people not being able to eat three square meals a day. It is unfair.

Tension in Bayelsa as A’Court reinstates Ebebi

TENSION gripped Bayelsa State, yesterday, following the Court of Appeal judgment that reinstated the erstwhile Deputy Governor of the State, Mr. Peremobowei Ebebi, who was impeached by the State House of Assembly.

Mr. Peremobowei Ebebi

The tension was exacerbated by the resolve of the State government not to heed the judgment putting a political cloud on the direction of the affairs of government with two deputy governors in place.
Ebebi was impeached by the House of Assembly last June over allegations of impropriety levelled against him by the State House of Assembly.
He was replaced by the then Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Mr. Werinipre Seibarugu.
The impeachment was effected in the midst of sharp political disagreements between the State Governor, Chief Timipire Sylva and Ebebi over the PDP structure in the state.

Oyo ACN guber: Court refuses to halt Ajimobi’s candidacy

IBADAN —  ATTEMPTS by three of the aggrieved Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, aspirants to stop the candidature of Senator Abiola Ajimobi, yesterday met a brick wall as the trial judge, Justice Johnson Shakarho, refused to grant any restraining order because other processes were yet to be fully filed. The aggrieved aspirants  despites all entreaties for amicable resolution  instituted an action against Ajimobi, Indpendent National Electoral Commission, INEC and ACN.
The aspirants who felt cheated by the action of the party’s leadership are Profs Wale Oyemakinde,Wole Akinboade and Hon. Soji Akanbi.
They are praying the federal High Court in Ibadan to declare that Ajimobi was not “validly or lawfully nominated or chosen as the governorship candidate of the ACN for the April election.
They asked the court to declare the “nomination or selection of Ajimobi as the party’s governorship candidate for the April general elections in the state null and void.
Olalekan Ojo is the counsel holding brief for the plaintiffs, while Abiodun Amole is standing in for Ajimobi.
He urged the court to order that status quo be maintained in the party as it was before the selection of Ajimobi and that the ACN, INEC should be restrained from recognizing him as the governorship candidate for the April elections in the state.
To him, the process that led to the selection of Ajimobi was fraught with irregularities and this contradicted the provisions of the 2010 electoral Act.
But Amole filed a motion challenging the jurisdiction of the court,  arguing that the motion must be heard first before any other matter.
He argued that since the name of the candidate had been forwarded to the electoral body, there was virtually nothing the court could restrain.
Justice Sharkarho then adjourned hearing of the applications to February 24 when all  parties in the suit ought to have adopted their written addresses.

According to sources in the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the deportees, accompanied by law enforcement agent from Madrid, Spain, were received at the Lagos airport by their Nigerian counterparts and other law enforcement agents.

L-R: Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi

THE Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential campaign in the South-South geo-political zone was on Saturday marred by a stampede that led to the death of, at least, 20 persons.

No fewer than 25 other persons were injured during the rush at the rally, which took place at the Liberation Stadium in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

It was gathered that the commotion, which took place at one of the two gates of the stadium, was caused by the refusal of security operatives to open the gate for those who wanted to leave the arena through the main exit points, while President Goodluck Jonathan was still addressing the crowd.

An eyewitness told GidiGlobeTEAM that while initial entreaties to the security agents who were mainly soldiers, police and operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps were rebuffed, they (security agents) decided to open the gate when another group of supporters surged towards the gate.

Why Nigeria’s unity is still fragile — Obasanjo

http://www.punchng.com/images/May/Sunday/pix201005163314921.jpg

The former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has raised the alarm that the unity of Nigeria remained fragile blaming the development on those he called “priests and barons of division.”

He said it was shameful that those promoting disunity and fanning embers of discord in the country had benefitted immensely from all privileges obtainable in Nigeria.

Obasanjo spoke in Minna, Niger State, on Saturday during the second term campaign inauguration of the Governor of the state, Dr. Babangida Aliyu, which was organised by the state Peoples Democratic Party.

President Goodluck Jonathan and his deputy, Namadi Sambo, were represented at the event by the Minister of Information, Mr Labaran Maku, in the event which attracted many dignitaries such as the Governors of Kwara, Dr. Bukola Saraki; Kaduna, Patrick Yakowa; and Zamfara states, Alhaji Mamud Shinkafi.

Kelly Handsome Fights At Famous Abuja Night Club

Hansome
Kennis Music artiste, Kelly Hansome, has made another avoidable detour into the minefields of controversy. The controversy-prone singer is the subject of a petition sent to the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, Haruna John.
According to the petition signed by the proprietor of the club, Edwin Okeke, the Maga Don Pay crooner, visited Cue Lounge located at Savannah Suites, Area 3, Garki, Abuja, on the night of Friday, January 28 with a few friends ostensibly to unwind.

Okeke states, “The problem started when the musician who came uninvited appealed through a mutual friend to be allowed to render a track from one of his albums. Little did we know that we were making a big mistake by acceding to his request because as soon as he finished the first track, he delved into another and started using his music to incite violence.”

At which point Okeke said they started pleading with him to stop but he seemed past caring: “His disregard for our plea even amid shouts of disapproval from the guests who were already walking out, prompted Deejay Scott of Brilla FM to turn off the microphone.

Realising that he could no longer continue with the microphone, he started assaulting an official of Cue Lounge until the lounge guards came to the official’s rescue.”

While being dragged out of the club, Okeke stated that Kelly ran back and grabbed the official by the collar while his (Kelly’s) escorts threw punches randomly. He declared further that in Kelly’s final attempt to forcefully gain entrance into the lounge, the front door which had been locked to forestall further disturbances did not give but the glass name plate broke in the process.

“A smashed 12mm glass name plate outside the door is one of the clear indications that violent acts were let loose by the musician and his escorts. In fact, a visit to our premises will show evidence of the magnitude of disruption and great violence that occurred on the said night,” Okeke said. Aside this act which led to many patrons leaving in anger, what irked the management of the club was the artiste’s threat to come back and continue where he stopped.

Several attempts to reach Kelly were unsuccessful as his mobile line was switched off. His label boss, Kenny Ogungbe, could not be reached for comments as he is in Los Angeles, United States

GG Team : The Myth of an Ideal Man

I loved the group Salt and Pepa when I was growing up.  I remember how I would record their songs from the radio and then have all the lyrics memorised in barely a day. (If only I had paid as much attention to my Math and Physics homework, perhaps I would be a Shell Engineer by now. Oh well!). Just like them, I wanted to wear the same multi coloured t-shirts and jackets with cycling shorts and sneakers/boots and have my hair packed up in a curled pony tail. I wanted to sing, act and dress like Salt and Pepa!
Of course, my parents always refused to let me step one foot outside dressed like all the colours of the rainbow, so the closest I came to being like Salt and Pepa was sounding like them. I had all their songs memorised. Despite their more popular songs like “Shoop”, “Lets talk about Sex”, “Push It” and “None of Your Business”, my best song was “Whatta Man”. Although I knew all the words to the rap and chorus, I doubt very much that I actually knew the meaning of the words that were coming out of my mouth.
Today, however I find that myself and many women are holding close to the ideals expressed in that very song. The song, essentially details what the female rap group sees as the key qualities of a ‘good man’. A smooth voice like Barry, a body like Arnold, with a Denzel face and a God sent original of a man of their dreams.

Ritual killings near campus: LASU students raise the alarm

Students of the Lagos State University on Friday raised the alarm over growing cases of ritual killing and armed robbery on the LASU/Iba Road and other communities around their main campus at Ojo.Some of the students told the News Agency of Nigeria that the frequent killings and robberies posed a great threat to their lives and their academic pursuit.

The speaker of the institution’s Students Union Government, Mr. Senapon Ajasa, told NAN that no fewer than 10 people had been killed in the LASU area in the last two months by suspected ritual killers.

The student leader said that the development had thrown the entire university community into panic as students and other people around the campus now lived in fear.

He said, “Everybody, particularly the students, is afraid. Ritual killers who remove body parts of their victims after killing them have made the LASU/Iba Expressway and adjoining communities unsafe.

“They operate from as early as 6 am on that notorious road. On their way to school, students usually find corpses whose body parts have been removed around the campus. It is a scary thing.”

Ajasa said that although no student had so far fallen victim, there was a need for the police to take urgent steps to address the feeling of insecurity in the area.

He appealed to the police authorities to declare the LASU/Iba Road a serious crime-prone zone and do all they could to ensure the security of lives in the area.

Meet An SS2 Student With Two Wives & Seven Children!!

Life has been challenging for 31-year old Islamic cleric, Yekini  Akeem, an SS-2 Student of Itabo  Community High School, Itabo, Lanlate, Oyo State, Southwest Nigeria. This is because he is attending  secondary school at that age and he has two wives and seven children.

Alfa, as he is popularly referred to by his colleagues, said one of the  greatest challenges facing him has been the difficulty of interacting with his classmates who are far  younger than him.
Some of them, he claimed, heap lots of insults on him daily because of his age and they know that back  home he has two wives and seven children.
Alfa said: “I disregard every insult because I know what I want.  Often, I serve punishment together  with my classmates even when it is receiving strokes of the cane.”
Yekini blamed the delay in his secondary education on an illness that affected his father in 1995 when  he was preparing for his Junior Secondary School Certificate exam, JSCE. This later truncated his  education.
“ After staying for six years at home, Alfa said he later enrolled in a Qu’ranic school. He graduated  in Arabic studies in 2004 and became a qualified Islamic teacher (Alfa).
After many years of staying away from school, Alfa said he attended a public lecture by Mallam Surakat  Abdul Rofiu which ignited his desire to return to school.
After the lecture, Yekini approached a community leader, Chief Saraki who assisted him to enrol as a  JS1 student in 2006. He was later promoted to JS2 and he wrote his junior WAEC.
Commenting on Yekini’s attitude and performance in school, his Vice Principal, Mr. Gbenga Adeshina  Babatunde said he has been of good conduct, therefore, he had always been interested in his education.
After his secondary education, Alfa is said to be interested in studying Arabic at tertiary level.

PDP candidates list: Jonathan insists on rule of law

http://www.punchng.com/images/June/Tuesday/pix201006011011431.jpg

President Goodluck Jonathan has resisted moves by rival groups in the Peoples Democratic Party to make him intervene in the raging crises in the party over the list of candidates to be officially adopted by the national electoral body in some states.

Investigations by our correspondents in Abuja on Friday showed that there had been moves by rival candidates in Ogun, Oyo, Enugu and Abia to get the President’s support.

It was, however, gathered that Jonathan insisted that since the party’s lists of candidates for the states were being contested in various courts, his intervention would amount to a violation of the rule of law.

Currently, there is uncertainty about the candidates that the PDP will present in the four states as there are court orders and counter-orders on the party’s lists.

Also, many of the affected members are confused about their political future, as it will be difficult for them to contest under the umbrella of other parties after February 14, which is next Tuesday.

The date is the deadline for parties to withdraw or substitute their candidates for the forthcoming elections in April.

In Ogun State, where two factions of the party held parallel primaries, the Independent National Electoral Commission accepted the list of former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s faction.

The faction, which has a former Oyo State military administrator, Maj.-Gen. Tunji Olurin (retd.), as its governorship candidate and Senator Iyabo Obasanjo-Bello as one of its senatorial candidates, had secured an injunction from a Federal High Court, Abuja.

The order restrained INEC from accepting the list of a rival faction led by the state governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.

Besides Daniel, who emerged a senatorial candidate of his faction, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr. Dimeji Bankole, was elected by the group to contest the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency seat.

The hope of the Daniel’s group was dashed on Tuesday as it could not prevail on the Federal High Court to vacate the order, which prevented INEC from accepting its list.

The governor, who was angered by the turn of events, had on Tuesday hinted that he and his supporters would leave the PDP, if his group’s list was not accepted.

It was gathered that the governor was contemplating defecting to the Accord Party, where he and other candidates on his list might contest.

But the President sent a delegation comprising his Chief of Staff, Chief Mike Oghiadome; a member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih and the party’s National Secretary, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, to meet with Daniel at his residence in Sagamu on Wednesday.

Ritualists Remove Pastor's Wife's Womb

Facts are beginning to emerge on who killed the wife of the pastor-in-charge of the Zion Baptist Church in Age Quarters, Igede-Ekiti , Mrs. Taiwo Oluwole last Saturday as her photograph taken after the incident showed that something, probably her womb, was removed through her private part by her assailants.

The late woman’s body was found lying on the ground with her legs widely open as surgeons would do when attempting to operate on a patient in the theatre. Members of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) yesterday staged a peaceful protest against the killing of the 56-year-old mother of three.

There were speculations that the deceased was raped before being killed by her attackers on the farm.

Leading the protesters on Thursday, Chairmen of the Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government and Igede Ekiti chapters of the religious body, Rev. Clement Kayode and Rev. Peter Adegbami respectively, hit the streets as early as 7:30am with other top ministers of God in the council and the community

The protesters walked the streets without singing or talking but stopped for a while at the front of the palace of Onigede of Igede, Oba James Aladesulu.

The only placard displayed by the protesters, who clutched Holy Bibles in their hands, red: “Save Our Souls from Kidnappers and Murderers at Igede.” Irate youths, who threatened to take the body of Mrs. Oluwole to the palace of the monarch, were prevented by policemen on guard. It’s an abomination in Nigeria, especially in Yorubaland, for a traditional ruler to see a dead body, an incident which is believed would lead to immediate death of the monarch.

Giving the chronicle of the killings in the community, the CAN chairman revealed that Mrs. Olumide Akindele was mysteriously killed in (2005). In 2007, Mrs. Omoya Awawu was also murdered. Mrs. Ogbogbo Rachael (Iya Aina) and Mr. Oluwabusuyi Tayo were 2009 victims of ritualists in the town. Mrs. Apanisile was also murdered in 2010. Their killers are yet to be known.

The power of this collection is in the precise cut  that enables the fabric to drape just right. The silhouette is fluid and all about flow. We love the slouchy wide legged trousers and our favourite piece is “Scarlett” – the floor length one-armed dress with the asymmetrical dipped back .

Adamawa govt buying, burning voters’ cards- Marwa

Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), governorship candidate in Adamawa state, Brigadier-General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), has accused Adamawa state government officials of buying and burning voters’ registration cards in hundreds in the state.
The state government has however described the allegation as baseless, false and untenable.
Marwa said this at a press conference yesterday in Yola that state government agents are buying the cards for N100.00 and N200.00 each with the purpose of dwindling his chances of winning the governorship seat  in the April general election.
He said the move was one of the devices being embarked upon by the government after realising that the incumbent administration will not be returned by the Adamawa electorate.
General Marwa, former military administrator of Borno state, said government personnel have been on hand in the nooks and crannies of the state on a mission to buy the voters cards because it was apparent that the incumbent government would not be returned by the Adamawa state electorate.
The former Nigerian Ambassador to South Africa, said that Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), and his campaign organization has been working harder and mobilizing the consciousness of Adamawa electorate towards protecting their voters’ cards religiously as it was the only viable instrument they could use to elect credible leaders in April, this year.
Marwa declared that  CPC would ensure that the elections was not rigged out by the incumbent  government and other political parties jostling to occupy the Dougerei  government house, Yola, because the electorates have been well mobilized to guard their vote religiously in the next general elections.

Do you really need a smartphone?

 http://www.punchng.com/images/February/Tuesday/pix201102086381042.jpg
Ordinarily, your communication needs should determine the type of phone you use. But for reasons of taste, many people buy expensive phones and may not use a tenth of their applications. Of course, cheaper phones come with less features and range while smartphones, which are usually expensive, have better technology and, certainly, better features. Apple’s iPhone alone has thousands of applications for users.

Generally speaking, a smartphone is a phone which works like a computer. Beside the basic function of making calls, text messaging and taking pictures, smartphones run a gamut of applications that can make your head swirl. From accessing your email accounts, checking a bank balance or booking a flight to browsing and downloading information from the web and anything in between, the latest smartphones can do anything, writes Barbara Chan in an article on smartphone published on www.ehow.com.

Smartphones are, indeed, the future of the wireless industry, but the question for now is: do you really need a smartphone? According to a recent research in the United Kingdom, 71 per cent of those who own smartphones use them simply to make calls, text or check Facebook.

I didn’t accuse anybody of supplying girls to Obasanjo – Fani-Kayode

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, on Monday raised the alarm over plans by mischief makers to pitch him against ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo.

He was reacting to comments allegedly posted on his facebook account, which made reference to Obasanjo, late President Umaru Yar’adua, Dr. Andy Uba, and Alhaji Ibrahim Turaki and published in the media titled: “Dirty details of Obasanjo’s Presidency’.

The former presidential spokesperson was said to have in the posting on the Facebook, accused some people of involvement in “dirty deals” in the Villa during Obasanjo’s regime.

He was said to have described some persons as “sniffing knickers” who were notorious for “supplying young girls to the President.”

Fani-Kayode, in a statement in Abuja, said the comments did not emanate from him but attributed it to “the work of some unscrupulous hackers on the internet,” who hacked into his facebook account.

... Four "Classifications" Of Women

As usual...
Saw this online....what do the you think, Grin
 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A MAN HAS 4 DIFFERENT TYPES OF WOMEN…

1.   Wifey
2.   Boo
3.   Bitches
4.   Ho’s

1.   Wifey: Is irreplaceable…and she is the only one that is irreplaceable…She is the girl that the guy loves and will always love – and he never wants to see her with another man. But, he will cheat on her with Boo, Bitches and Ho’s until he is mature enough to realize that if he loses Wifey, he would be screwed and NEVER be happy again.

2.   Boo:  Is replaceable – she thinks she’s Wifey, but will NEVER be Wifey because Wifey was made Wifey and is irreplaceable. She can NEVER replace her. Boo tries to take Wifey’s spot, but once she attempts, the guy allows her to get a TASTE of Wifey’s spot but, will NEVER achieve her spot for any longer than a few months, then the man goes back to Wifey…and Boo either gets replaced with another Boo, or, the man matures and decides that Wifey is the one for him… (Ladies… you don’t want to be Boo)

3.   Bitches: A female that a male uses only for sex or other sexually related events…That when Wifey’s acting up and you need a quick nut. The naughty woman is the first one running there.

4.   Ho’s: Enough said! Trying to move up in life, wants to be a naughty woman or a Boo. Hoes are just the girls you bag for no reason and have them in your phone. Backups in case a naughty woman or a boo slips up.

President Goodluck Jonathan began his presidential campaign on Monday with a clear message to Nigerians: There will be no sacred cows in his desire to rid the country of crime.

Jonathan, during a rally held at the Lafia Mini Stadium, Lafia, Nasarawa State, said those who were encouraging people to throw bombs across the country should continue.

Government, he assured would ‘continue to investigate’ until they would be caught and made to account for their misdeeds.

He said, “This administration will not sweep any crime under the carpet and there will be no sacred cows. Those who are encouraging people to bomb should continue. We will get them as we will not abandon investigation into any crime.

“We are investigating all the crimes and we are not going to leave any stone unturned in getting to their roots.”

He said his government was aware that security was central to the development of the country and that that was why it was developing new methods of investigating crimes.

The President added that apart from security, his attention, if elected President in April, would also be focused on power since it is the engine of economic growth.

Pointing out that the economy was central in moving the country forward, he appealed to Nigerians to be patient.
